Help Providence “go green” during our first Going Green Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22. The free event for the whole family is being held in conjunction with the annual international Earth Day observance where people all over the world demonstrate support for keeping the planet healthy and clean.
We’re starting with a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) clean-up of the desert area west of Providence from 8 a.m. to noon, and will continue with Going Green festivities at Knickerbocker Park from noon to 3 p.m. They include music, games, inflatable bungee run and obstacle course, gardening demonstrations for kids and adults by Star Nursery, small farmers market by Gilcrease Orchard, dog agility course by K-9 Allure, free shredding by Opportunity Village, blood drive by United Blood Services, information and goodies for kids from community partners and food trucks.
In honor of Earth Day, ladybugs will be released at 2:30 p.m. They are considered beneficial because they consume harmful insects that kill or damage flowers, shrubs and trees.
