Get ready for more fun in the great outdoors! Knickerbocker Park is on schedule to open at Providence in late 2011. The neighborhood park will include a splash pad, tot lots, a dog park area, multi use events field, youth baseball field, jogging path with exercise stations, picnic areas, and designated spaces for future amenities. The $2.2 million project will be located at the southeast corner of Shaumber Road and Dorrell Lane.
The Knickerbocker Park name was inspired by American literary and historical icons and further captures the spirit of Providence’s small town America theme. It was named after “Knickerbocker Tales,” literary great Washington Irving’s collection of stories from 19th century upstate New York that include “Rip Van Winkle,” “The Headless Horseman” and other favorites.
Recent construction updates include:
  • All the light poles and irrigation have been
    installed.
  • The hydro-seed has been sprayed, covering
135,000 square feet of turf for the baseball field and multi use field. Grass
    will start sprouting this month.
  • About 150 ash, palo verde and mesquite trees
    have been planted.
Keep checking back for updates on progress at Knickerbocker Park!
