Spring Cleaning for Good

Published on March 15th, 2013

Spring has arrived – have you started cleaning? While you may think of Spring Cleaning as a gift to yourself and your family, many of the items that you may want to throw out could be of great help to those in need. If you’re cleaning out your closets and are about to throw old clothes out in the garbage bin, think twice! Your unwanted clothing is greatly needed by organizations across southern Nevada.

Goodwill of Southern Nevada will use your clothing to sell and generate funds to provide education, employment and training for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. They have many locations around Las Vegas where it is easy to drop off a donation most anytime. Visit their website to find the location nearest you!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada also accept clothing donations. When you donate clothing and other items to the Donation Center, they distribute some items to families who are in need and some items to other charities within the valley (Shade Tree Women’s Shelter, New Vista Ranch). What they can’t use is sold in bulk to our charity partner, Savers.  Savers is a thrift store that partners with not-for-profits in the valley in order to help us meet our financial requirements. 100% of the net proceeds from transactions with Savers goes to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada. Visit their website for more information.

Finally, you can donate professional attire to Dress for Success Southern Nevada. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.  Dress for Success Southern Nevada provides each woman with one suit for her job interview. When she successfully lands a job, she returns to Dress for Success for a second suit and up to a week’s worth of business-appropriate separates and accessories. To find out where to drop off donations, visit their website.
